1.4 bar expansion tank cap
This is quite possibly one of the most overlooked components of the cooling system on BMW's. The expansion tank cap serves a couple of important functions. Firstly, the cap keeps/retains necessary pressure on the coolant to increase the systems efficiency. Secondly, the cap prevents the coolant from boiling or expanding too much by keeping pressure on the coolant and cooling system. This cap is designed to withstand 1.4 bar (20PSI) of pressure and eventually wears out over time.
We strongly encourage you to replace this cap anytime a cooling system service is completed.
Note: This cap is designed to release if there is too much system pressure. If the cap has leaked coolant, bleed the system and replace the cap.
