The tie rods are connected to your steering rack and control the steering of your car. When the ball joints wear out, it creates slop, giving you a popping sound while steering, and not allowing you to align your car correctly. Always replace both your tie rods at the same time. Kit comes with left and right side (inner and outer tie rods).
