At some point in owning a BMW you will need to replace the faulty chain guides, reseal the front timing cover, or remove the VANOS unit. To set everything back up you have to place a preload on the timing chain. There are various ways people have come up with to accomplish this, but German Auto Solutions has created the best solution. This simple CNC'd machined timing chain tensioner threads into the tensioner location on the side of the block. Turn the knurled knob to increase or decrease tension on the chain to perform your maintenance. A great tool in the box to have.
Note: This will only work on M52tu, S50, S52, M52, M54 engines.
